Wheel Horse Bourbon is produced at Kentucky's historic Green River Distillery
(Owensboro Distilling Co.), which was founded in 1885. The distillery now
continues its legacy of crafting great whiskey under the guidance of Master
Distiller, Jacob Call, a third-generation distiller.
70% CORN | 21% RYE | 9% MALTED BARLEY
Aged 2-4 years in 53-gallon new American oak barrels
101 Proof | Non-chill filtered | Sour Mash | Small Batch
MADE IN OWENSBORO, KENTUCKY
"Root beer spice, candied pineapple, wet walnuts, clementine, and Christmas
cookies on the nose. A velvety texture on the palate brings butter pecan
ice cream, cinnamon toast, maple syrup, and vanilla custard. There is tremendous
length on the finish, with a cola-like syrupy sweetness throughout. As debuts
go, this one impresses." —Ted Simmons
Like many historic distilleries, however, this distillery has seen its ups and downs, and has changed hands many times throughout its storied past. In fact, for the better part of the past few decades the distillery has been offline and was nearly destroyed. In 2014, a new owner came in to rebuild the distillery and bring it back on line with an eye toward excellence. The new owner brought in Ron Call, a veteran Master Distiller with 40 years of experience at Jim Beam and Florida Caribbean Distillers, to facilitate the next evolution of the distilling operation. Production officially resumed at the newly minted distillery in 2016, and the Master Distiller’s torch was passed on to Ron’s son, Jacob, a seventh generation Kentuckian and a third-generation distiller.
