Deep ruby color is a signature of our Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon. Exotic aromas of sandlewood, espresso, brown sugar, and licorice combine with sweet ripe fruit. Concentrated and rich, and redolent with flavors of plum, black raspberry, black currant, and cola. The texture is velvety and creamy.
Leathery tannins and juicy acidity frame the structure of this balanced, delicious wine.
Providing a great point-counterpoint entry, the wine exhibits notes of Hershey’s milk chocolate and blue-raspberry. On the palate, Bing cherry juice and raspberry jam light up the senses, followed by fresh thyme and vanilla cream. Going from this juicy entry to the lush palate, a slight minerality is noticed on the back end. This is all well supported by the sweet, concentrated tannin for which the Stags Leap District is world renowned. This is followed by an essence of birch beer that is lightly woven together with uber-fine-grained tannin on the finish. This wine should age well for another 15 years.
Our steep, densely planted Stags Leap District estate has been the heart of the winery since Pine Ridge Vineyards was founded here in a farmhouse in 1978. This wine is a pure and exquisite expression of the world-famous Stags Leap District AVA.
VINEYARDS
Our 2022 Stags Leaps District Cabernet Sauvignon is a selection of grapes from all four of our
estate vineyards, which total 47 vine-acres. This wine beautifully exhibits the complex terroir
character and exquisite balance achieved by blending grapes grown in these vineyards’ different
soils, ranging from gravely loam to volcanic rhyolitic tuff. Pine Ridge Vineyards, founded in 1978,
was instrumental in establishing Stags Leap District as a distinct viticultural area within Napa
Valley. This American Viticultural Area was the first to be defined by the unique diversity of its
soil and is known the world round for its powerfully structured wines that exhibit a significant
concentration of supple tannins.
TASTING & PAIRING NOTES
Providing a great point-counterpoint entry, the wine exhibits notes of Hershey’s milk chocolate
and blue-raspberry. On the palate, Bing cherry juice and raspberry jam light up the senses,
followed by fresh thyme and vanilla cream. Going from this juicy entry to the lush palate, a slight
minerality is noticed on the back end. This is all well supported by the sweet, concentrated tannin
for which the Stags Leap District is world renowned. This is followed by an essence of birch beer
that is lightly woven together with uber-fine-grained tannin on the finish. This wine should age
well for another 15 years and would be a great accompaniment to a bed of risotto generously
covered in Parmigiano Reggiano shavings.
